Telenor Myanmar announced that the
first-ever voice call was successfully carried out on the company’s live
core network in Myanmar.

The core network is the backbone of Telenor’s telecommunications network and enables telephone calls and mobile services to be routed to customers when the company launches its network and services later this year. Huawei, one of Telenor Myanmar’s network equipment providers, built the core network architecture which will support Telenor’s nationwide network roll-out. Telenor Myanmar’s other network equipment providers include Ericsson and Wipro, and the company has also selected telecommunications infrastructure providers Apollo Towers and Irrawaddy Green Technology (IGT), to build and manage its telecom towers.
“The first call made on Telenor’s network is a landmark occasion because it underscores the significant progress that Telenor has made in our roll-out plan in Myanmar and it shows that we are ready and on track as we move closer to launch. Our team has been working hard to ensure that Telenor is able to fulfill our promise of building a state-of-the-art mobile network that brings with it many benefits and opportunities for Myanmar’s people, economy and society,” said Petter Furberg, CEO of Telenor Myanmar.

Mr. Furberg added, “We are honored by Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Union Minister, U Myat Hein for attending this important milestone and taking time to inspect the core site. We still have much work to do, particularly in tower building, but we remain confident that Telenor will deliver world-class and cost-effective telecommunications infrastructure and services within the timeframe that we committed to, which is within eight months of having signed the telecommunications license agreement.”
