ဒေါ်အောင်ဆန်းစုကြည် မိန့်ကြားသော Burma / Myanmar အကြောင်း

Burma ဟာ များစွာသော တိုင်းရင်းသားလူမျိုးစုတို့ရဲ မြေဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ လူတော်တော်များများက မေးကြတော့ ကျမ ဘာကြောင့် Burma လို့ သုံးနှုံးတယ်ဆိုတာ ရှင်းပြဖို့ လိုအပ်ပြီ ထင်ပါတယ်။ ၁၉၄၈မှာ ကျမတို့ လွတ်လပ်ရေးရတဲ့ အချိန်မှာ Burma ဟုသာ (နိုင်ငံတကာက) သိကြပါတယ်။ နှစ်ကာလကို အရေးတကြီးလုပ်ပြီး ကျမသေသေချာချာ မမှတ်မိပေမယ့် အနှစ် ၂ဝကျော် ဆိုရှယ်လစ်စနစ်အတွင်း ၁၉၇၀ -၁၉၈၀ ကာလတွေအထိ ကျမတို့ Burma လို့သာ သုံးစွဲခဲ့ကြတာပါ။ ဒါပေမယ့် ၁၉၈၈မှာ စစ်အစိုးရ အာဏာသိမ်းပြီးနောက် နေ့တနေ့မှာ Myanmar လို့ ခေါ်ဖို့၊ Burma လို့ ဆက်လက် မသုံးစွဲဖို့ သတင်းစာနဲ့ နိုင်ငံပိုင်အသံလွှင့်ဌာနက ကြေညာပါတယ်။ တရားဝင်ထုတ်ပြန်တဲ့ ရှင်းလင်းချက်မှာ Burma ဆိုတာ ကိုလိုနီတွေရဲ့ ဖန်တီးချက်ဖြစ်တယ်။ Myanmar ဆိုမှ သဘောဝကျတဲ့ အမည်ဖြစ်တယ်၊ ကျမတို့ နိုင်ငံအမည်ဖြစ်တယ် လို့ ဖော်ပြပါတယ်။ အဲဒါဟာ မမှန်ပါဘူး။ အရင်က ကျမပြောခဲ့သလို Burma ဟာ များစွာသော တိုင်းရင်းသားလူမျိုးစုတို့ရဲ တိုင်းပြည်ဖြစ်ပါတယ်၊

Burmese ဆိုတာ အဲဒီလူမျိုးစုတွေထဲက တစုသာဖြစ်တယ်။ Burmese ရဲ့ ( မြန်မာလို ) စာသုံးပေသုံးဝေါဟာရ အမည်ဟာ " မြန်မာ" ပါပဲ။ အမှန်တော့ " မြန်မာ" ဆိုတာ အကြီးဆုံးလူမျိုးစုတစု (Burmese)ရဲ့ စာပေသုံး လူမျိုးအမည်ဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုတာ ရှင်းရှင်းလင်းလင်းသိသာပါတယ်။ ကျမဟာ Burmese ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ကျမဟာ မြန်မာလူမျိုးဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ( ရယ်သံများ )

ကျမ မြန်မာစကားနဲ့ ပြောတဲ့ အခါမှာ ကျမကိုယ်ကျမ "ဘာမီးစ် " လို့ တခါမှ မပြောဘူး။ ကျမကိုယ်ကျမ " မြန်မာလူမျိုး" ပါလို့ပဲပြောပါတယ်။

ရှင်တို့မှာလဲ ဒီလိုပုံစံမျိး ရှိမယ်လို့ ကျမထင်ပါတယ်။ ရှင်တို့ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ပြောဆိုတဲ့ အခါမှာ ရှင်တို့ကိုယ် ရှင်တို့ German ( အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာသုံး) လို့ပဲ သုံးနှုံးလေ့ရှိပြီး Deutsche ( ဂျာမန်ဘာသာသုံး) လို့ ရည်ညွန်းမရှိပါဘူး။ ဒါဟာ လုံးဝသဘာဝကျပါတယ်။ ဒီနည်းအတိုင်းပဲ ပြင်သစ်လူမျိုးအားလုံးဟာ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ပြောဆိုတဲ့ အခါမှာ မိမိကိုယ် မိမိ Française ( ပြင်သစ်ဘာသာသုံး) လို့ ပြောလေ့နည်းပါးပြီး French ( အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာသုံး) လို့ပဲ သုံးနှုံးလေ့ရှိပါတယ်။

ဒီအတိုင်းပါပဲ ကျမလဲ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ပြောဆိုတဲ့ အခါမှာ ကျမနိုင်ငံကို Burma လို့ ရည်ညွန်းသုံးစွဲပါတယ်။

ကျမအနေနဲ့ နိုင်ငံအမည်သစ် Myanmar ( အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာသုံး) ကို ဆန့်ကျင်တာက ဒါဟာ ပြည်သူ့ဆန္ဒသဘောထားကို တောင်းခံခြင်းမရှိပဲ အတင်းအကြပ်သုံးခိုင်းလို့ပါပဲ။ တနည်းပြောရရင် Myanmar ဆိုတာ ဒီမိုကရေစီမကျတဲ့ ပုံသဏ္ဌန်မျိုးနဲ့ ကျမတို့ကို သတ်မှတ်ပေးလိုက်တဲ့ အမည်ပဲဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒီလို အာဏာရှိသူတွေက (သူတို့ဘာသာ) ဆုံးဖြတ်လိုက်လိုက်ပြီးမှ ဒီလိုနည်းနဲ့ ကျမတို့ကို အသိပေးခဲ့တယ်။

ကဲ...၊ ကျမကတော့ တိုင်းပြည်ကို ( အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာသုံးအနေနဲ့ ) Burma လို့ပဲ ဆက်လက်ခေါ်ပါမယ်။ ( လက်ခုပ်သံများ) ဒါပေမယ့် ဒီမိုကရေစီကို ယုံကြည်သူတဦးဖြစ်တဲ့အလျှောက် လူတိုင်းဟာ ကျမတို့တိုင်းပြည်ကို Burma လို့ခေါ်မလား၊ Myanmar လို့ခေါ်မလားဆိုတာ မိမိတို့ ကိုယ်တိုင်ရွေးချယ်နိုင်ပါတယ်။ ရှင်တို့ သဘောဆန္ဒအရ ဖြစ်မယ်၊ တဦးတယောက်က အတင်းအကြပ်ခိုင်းတာမျိုး မဟုတ်ဘူးဆိုရင် ကျမ နှစ်မျိုးစလုံးကို လက်ခံနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Burma is a land of many ethnic nationalities. Now I think at this point I must explain my use of Burma because many people have asked me about this. When we became independent in 1948, we were known as Burma. I can't quite remember exact years which is how much important I put on it, but during 20 years of Burma Socialist program party I think somewhere 1970 or 1980 we can continue to use Burma. But after Military regime took over 1988, one day it is announced in newspaper and on state radio that our country would here forth be known internationally as Myanmar and no longer as Burma. The official explanation given to us was that Burma was a colonial invention , Myanmar was a nature name. It was our name for our country. This is of course it's not true as I said earlier Burma is a country of many ethnic nationalities and Burmese is just one of this ethnic nationalities. The literally name for Burmese is Myanmar.In fact, the name Myanmar is simply literally name of one particular ethnic group, the biggest ethnic group, the Burmese, I am Burmese. Now I am all Myanmar. When I say in Burmese, I never refer to us as Burmese. I refer to us as Myanmar.I think the same way when you say in English, you refer to yourself as German rather than Deutsche. That is perfectly natural. All French say that French rather than Française when you speak English. In same way, when I speak English, I refer to our country as Burma. The main reason why I object to new name Myanmar is because it is imposed on our country without following the will of our people. In another words, Myanmar is a name given to us entirely undemocratic fashion. This was decided by those in power. It is how we are going to be known. So, I can continue to refer to my country as Burma. But as somebody who believe in democracy, everyone of you may decide for yourself whether to refer to my country as Burma or Myanmar. Both are equally acceptable to me if you use it out of your own free will and not because because somebody has force you to use that name so.
